U-21 Championship

The game which was played in Annaduff was keenly contested from start to finish with great scores being taken on each side. The boys now progress to the semi final where their opponents will be the winners of Glenfarne and Drumkeeran.

Minor Championship
Pride of place this week goes to the minor team that retained the Minor B 13-a-side championship after a tough and exciting game with Carrigallen in Cloone on Friday night. It was the first underage final played under lights in Leitrim. Despite a five point deficit at halftime on a score line of 0-7 to 0-2, following first half points by Niall O Connor and David Mulligan, the lads put in a terrific second half comeback. A brace of points from the ever accurate Sean McKeon and a tremendous strike to the net by captain Niall O Connor had levelled the game shortly after half time. Carrigallen fought hard but a matchwinning goal in the 58th minute by the hard running Mervyn Howard clinched the game in our favour and an insurance point from Sean McKeon, who scored a magnificant seven points, ensured victory over a gallant Carrigallen side on a final scoreline of 2-10 to 1-9.The Ned Dolan cup was presented to Captain Niall O Connor after the game by the Dolan Family.
Again a big thank you to Brian Mallon and Jackie Conboy for their management of the team. The team was as follows: Roy Keenan, Sean Ryan, Damian McGowan, Harry Comiskey, Paul Hackett, Kevin Canning, Niall O Connor (1-1), Damian Moran, David Muligan (0-1), Mervyn Howard (1-1), Alan Croghan, Sean McKeon (0-7), Alan Bohan subs: Tony Shanley, Anthony Mulligan, Conor McWeeney and Daniel Farrell.

Division 5 League final
Played on a fine surface in Aughnasheelin on Saturday evening the division 5 team were beaten by Glencar/Manor in the league final on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-9. This team put in a very strong league winning 12 out of 13 games and the delay in playing the final did not assist their chances of winning the final. However, a sharper Glencar/Manor proved the better team on the day. Well done to the lads on securing promotion to division 4 for 2009. Finally a big thank you to the management of Seoirse Reynolds, Mick Mallon and Declan Conboy for all their time and efforts with the team over the last five years.

Division 1
The senior team were defeated by Kiltubrid on Sunday morning on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-11. Team and scorers were as follows:
Gerry Gearty, Seamus Mallon, Morgan Shanley, Jason Conroy, Niall O Connor, John McGuinness (0-1), Conor McCauley, Michael Duignan (Capt), Colm Farrell (0-1), Jonathan Duffy, David O Connor (0-1), Sean McKeon (0-1), Mark McCloskey (0-2), Trevor Howard
(0-1) and Fergal Howard (0-3). Subs Damian McGuinness, Paul Hackett, Declan Shanley (0-1) and Bobby Shanley. This team will probably be in action at home to Glencar/Manor at the weekend.

Well done to our PRO Feargal McGill on his recent appointment to Operations Manager in the GAA. Part of his role is responsibility for the Compromise series and he is currently in Australia as Tour Manager of the Ireland Team and no doubt if there is a goalkeeping injury, he will be available for selection.

News 1 - 10 - 08

County Final
After a short delay, preparations are in full swing for the County final on Sunday as we face Glencar/Manorhamilton in Páirc Seán at 3pm. The parish has been a hive of activity in the last couple of days with supporters busy decorating the area in the Bornacoola colours and the team quietly preparing for the big game. We’d like to extend a special welcome to all who are returning to the parish for the big day from many corners of the country and from abroad. We hope there is a large Bor contingent in Páirc Seán on Sunday. Best of luck to Noel, Jackie and the entire panel and we hope that by Sunday night we are celebrating a county championship for the first time since 1957.

Mayhem in the dressing room before the game when our star full forward discovered he had forgotten his “hamstring togs”; thankfully he still had his hamstrings and went on to play a starring role in this victory.

Happy Birthday
I’m sure he’ll thank me for mentioning it, but all at the club wish to send their best wishes to club Secretary Shane Reynolds and his twin sister Sharon who celebrated their 40th birthdays last week. Happy birthday to you both. A quick mention also to Seamus Mallon who added another year officially to the clock this week also!!

Senior Championship
A battling second half display against Kiltubrid secured our passage to the County final for the second time in four years after an epic battle in Páirc Seán on Saturday last. Kiltubrid’s ability to score goals was aptly demonstrated in the first period when they led by 3-2 to 0-5 at half time. However, an opportunist goal from Trevor Howard five minutes from time put the Bors ahead for the first time in the match and a late block by John Mc Guinness on another goal opportunity for Kiltubrid ensured our passage to the final.
Our thanks to Kiltubrid for a most sporting game – they have been one of the top teams in the county over the past five or six years and the gracious manner in which they accepted defeat at the final whistle was noted by all.
The Bornacoola team on Saturday was: Gerry Gearty, Jason Conroy, Morgan Shanley, Seamus Mallon, Conor Mc Cauley, John Mc Guinness, Niall O Connor, Michael Duignan, Colm Farrell, Trevor Howard (1-0), MJ Winters, Robert Moran (0-2), Philip Howard (0-3), David O Connor (0-1) and Mark Mc Closkey (0-4). With Bornacoola three points up at half time, Allen Gales improved considerably in the second half of a game where a draw was a fair result.
Team and Scorers: Feargal Mc Gill, John Shanley, Seamus Mallon, Brian Mallon, Sean Ryan, MJ Winters (0-1), Paul Hackett, Colm Farrell, Feargal Howard, Declan Shanley (0-1), Sean Mc Keon (0-1), Robert Moran (0-1), Aiden Reilly (1-1), Brian Conroy and John Bohan (0-1). Subs used: Bobby Shanley, Jonathan Duffy, Pat Farrell and John Reynolds.

Underage Matters

The U-12’s played Augnasheelin last week in the last game of the league and were beaten in what was a very competitive game on a final score of 4-6 to 9-9. Our underage players are again embarking on a 1000th point challenge this year and we’d ask you to support them in their endeavours. All players should note that sponsorship cards need to be returned on Saturday. Also please note that next Saturday morning is the final fitting for the hoodie’s so all boys and girls are asked to ensure their attendance.

Ladies Football
The Ladies played Annaduff at the weekend in the 9-a-side league and while they suffered defeat in that game, they have a chance for instant revenge as they meet the same opposition this Sunday in Division 2 of the Ladies League in Dromod in a game that will have a 12pm throw-in.

Championship Draws
The U-16 team have been drawn in a group with Gortletteragh, Aughnasheelin and Cloone in the 9-a-side B championship. First game in the competition will be on August 1st. Before that, the Minor team begin championship action on July 2nd in the Minor B 13-a-side championship. They’ve been drawn in a group that includes Melvin Gaels, Carrigallen, Dromahair and Drumkeerin. At U-14 level, our participation will be in the 9-a-side competition where we join Aughavas, Aughnasheelin, Cloone, Ballinaglera, St Osnatt’s and Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher in the search for glory which commences on July 4th

Jack Mc Nally R.I.P.
The death has occurred of former Bornacoola player and Leitrim County board official Jack Mc Nally. Jack was a member of the last Bornacoola team to have won the Senior championship in 1957. Born in Dromod, Jack spent much of his early years in America, but starred for Bornacoola when the family returned to the village to run the family bar. He attended the 50th anniversary celebrations of the 1957 victory last year in Rooskey and indeed regaled us all with some terrific stories from the era. Jack of course was well known for his encyclopaedic knowledge on a wide range of subjects and he was possessed of an incredible memory. All at the club extend their deepest sympathies to his wife Millie and their children and extended family at Jack’s sad passing. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Junior League
The Division 3 played Sean O Heslins on Saturday afternoon in an open and competitive game in Dromod. A first half goal from Robert Moran set Bornacoola on their way to victory and the Bors enjoyed a 1-7 to 0-3 half time lead. However, the Ballinamore side battled strongly in the second half and at one stage reduced the margin to three points. However, a strong finish from Bornacoola, and in particular a terrific solo goal from Brian “Taxi” Conroy ensured the 2nd victory of the campaign for Bornacoola.
Team was: Feargal Mc Gill, John Shanley, Seamus Mallon, Brian Mallon, MJ Winters, Niall O Connor, Paul Hackett, Feargal Howard, Colm Farrell, Robert Moran, Sean Mc Keon, Declan Shanley, Aiden Reilly, Brian Conroy and John Bohan. Subs used: Ollie Vaughan, Damian Moran, Brendan Duignan

Ladies Football
The Ladies played Dromahair on Friday evening but despite a promising start, they suffered defeat at the hands of the North Leitrim girls.

Sympathy
Our sympathies are extended to the Tiernan family Cloone on the tragic passing of Tommy Tiernan last week. The Tiernan’s have been synonymous with Cloone GAA over the years and are well known in Leitrim GAA circles. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a Anam.

U-12 League
The U-12’s played Aughnasheelin on Monday night and travel to play Leitrim Gaels this Friday evening at 7pm. Meanwhile, last Friday, the boys were involved in a very exciting game with Glenfarne/Kilty which ended in a thrilling 3-8 each draw. Well done to both sides for providing great entertainment.

Weekend Fixtures
The Senior team travel to Aughnasheelin on Saturday evening for a 6.30pm throw-in in Division 1 of the league. The Division 3 team play on Sunday as they travel to Drumshanbo for a 2.30pm throw-in against Allen Gaels.

Gary Departs
Long time Bornacoola and Leitrim midfielder Gary Mc Closkey leaves these parts for a new career in London this week. Gary has been an outstanding servant of the club over the years, having won underage medals at all levels and of course playing at centrefield on the Leitrim team that won the Connacht Minor Championship in 1998. A wonderfully committed player and a unique character off the field, “Red” will be sorely missed by his many friends in Bornacoola both off the field and on. However, we wish him all the very best in his new job and we hope he lights up the playing fields for his new club Tír Chonaill Gaels as much as he has done over the years in the Black and Amber of Bornacoola. Slán a chara, is míle buíochas as ucht an méid a rinne tú ar son an Chlub agus an pharóiste go ginerealta. Le chúnamh Dé beidh tú ar ais dúinn tar éis tamaill beag ach go dtí sin, go n-eirí go geal leat le gach rud.

News 3 - 06 - 08

Senior League
Melvin Gaels were the visitors to Dromod at the weekend for our third league game of the year and it was the Kinlough men who dominated the first half and were worthy 0-7 to 0-3 leaders at half time. The Bors rallied strongly in the second half and levelled the game in the closing minutes, but again the North Leitrim men managed to find a little extra and closed out the game with three late scores to secure a 0-13 to 0-10 victory.
The Bornacoola team was: Gerry Gearty, Seamus Mallon, Morgan Shanley, Jason Conroy, Daniel Canning, John Mc Guinness, Conor Mc Cauley, Michael Duignan, Gary Mc Closkey, Trevor Howard, Colm Farrell, Niall O Connor, Mark Mc Closkey, David O Connor and Philip Howard. Subs used Shane Conroy, Damian Mc Guinness and Brian Conroy. Our best wishes to Danny Canning who suffered a recurrence of a knee injury in this game. We hope to see him fit and well in the near future.

Division 3
We made the short journey to Annaduff on Sunday afternoon in Division 3. The home side were much the sharper team in the first half and were good value for a 0-6 to 0-3 half time lead. However, Bornacoola enjoyed a much better opening to the second half and midway through had levelled the game at 0-6 apiece. A goal for Annaduff and a disallowed green flag for Bornacoola ultimately dictated the outcome of the game as Annaduff tacked over some nice scores in the closing five minutes to secure a 1-12 to 0-7 victory.
The Bornacoola team was: Feargal Mc Gill, Sean Ryan, Seamus Mallon, Gerald Moffatt, Paul Hackett, Niall O Connor, Brian Mallon, MJ Winters, Colm Farrell, Declan Shanley, Sean Mc Keon, Ollie Vaughan, Aiden Reilly, Brian Conroy and John Bohan. Subs Used John Shanley, Alan Croghan

U-12 Fixture
The U-12 team play Gortletteragh in Cornageeha on Friday evening next at 7pm.

Division 5
The Division 5 team returned to top form on Monday when they produced an excellent performance to defeat table toppers Glencar/Manorhamilton by 2-7 to 0-9. With promotion very much in their sights, the boys have a very big game this Sunday when they play host to Leitrim Gaels in Dromod in a game that will have a 2.30pm throw-in.

Division 5
Pride of place this week must go to our Division 5 team who have continued their excellent start to the season with a 0-8 to 0-6 victory over St Osnatt’s in Kilasnett on Monday. This places the boys on top of the table in the Division with four wins from their opening four games. They now face Eslin in Dromod on Sunday next at 2.30pm.

Senior Shield

Cloone were the opposition in our third game of the Senior Shield on Saturday last and it took a late penalty goal from Mark Mc Closkey to salvage a share of the spoils in what was a disappointing Bornacoola performance.
The team and scorers was: Feargal Mc Gill, Seamus Mallon, Morgan Shanley, Jason Conroy, Shane Conroy, John Mc Guinness, Conor Mc Cauley, Daniel Canning, Colm Farrell, Trevor Howard (1-1), John Reynolds, Jonathan Duffy, Mark Mc Closkey (1-2), Aidan Reilly and Declan Shanley. Subs used: Brian Conroy (1-0), Mervyn Howard and Feargal Howard.

Junior League Division 3
The Division 3 team have struggled to get their season started and were no match for Glencar/Manorhamilton in their third league game on Sunday last in North Leitrim. After a close first half, Bornacoola were reduced to 14 men in the second period and two well taken goals for the home side ensured a second defeat in three games for the Bors.
The team on duty was: Gerry Gearty, Sean Ryan, Seamus Mallon, Mervyn Howard, John Reynolds, Niall Mc Gowan, Colm Farrell, Feargal Howard, Jonathan Duffy, Declan Shanley, John Bohan, Brian Conroy, Aidan Reilly and John Shanley. Subs used: Robert Moran, Brian Mallon, Feargal Mc Gill

The panel on duty against Aughavas was: Shane Sullivan, Kieran Campbell, Barry Reid, Sean Muldowney, Mark Muldowney, Liam Mulligan, Kevin Shanley, Conor Hackett, Feargal Hackett, Karl Mallon, Ian Mulligan and Ronan Mulligan.

Frank Donnelly R.I.P
All at the club send their sympathies to the wife, family and friends of the late Frank Donnelly who passed away in Dublin recently following a brave battle with illness, Born in Armagh, Frank came to Dromod as a Garda in the 1950’s and his footballing talents quickly saw him established as a key member of the Bornacoola team of that era. He played in the forward line on the last Bornacoola team to win the Senior Championship in 1957 and spent the latter years of his life in Drumcondra in Dublin. Frank attended the Club Dinner dance last year when the Club celebrated the 50th anniversary of that victory. A former county minor with Armagh, Frank won a senior championship in Sligo with Craobh Rua in the early 50’s on a team that also included local men Cormac Mc Gill and Tony Hayden. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Underage Training
Please note that there will be no underage training this Saturday morning.

Ladies League
The Ladies team suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Manorhamilton in the 9-a-side league on Sunday morning last. Despite dominating for most of the game, the girls let a five point lead slip in the closing seven minutes as Glencar/Manorhamilton scored three goals to secure a three point victory. Nonetheless the girls continue to improve under the watchful eye of Vinny Canning and Aiden Reilly.

County Matters
Niall O Connor, Sean Mc Keon and Paul Hackett all represented Leitrim in their Minor Championship defeat to Sligo on Monday last. The previous Friday, John Mc Guinness and Colm Farrell were part of the Leitrim Junior panel that defeated the same opposition and Leitrim now play Roscommon in the Connacht Junior Final in Pearse Stadium on May 18th. This weekend, all eyes turn to New York as Leitrim begin their campaign for Connacht glory – Captain Gary Mc Closkey, Michael Duignan, David O Connor and Philip Howard will represent Bornacoola and a large contingent from hereabouts will make the journey to the Big Apple to support them. Full report on our return.

Golf Classic
Don’t forget our Golf Classic takes place in Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club on Saturday May 24th. There are still a number of tee times available and for information on this, and indeed if you are interested in sponsoring a tee or helping out in any way, please contact Mícheál Mc Gowan on 086 2561023.

Birthday Greetings

The Chairman has been in touch to let me know that he celebrates his birthday today (Wednesday). He refused to divulge his age but did say he wasn’t quite born when Bornacoola last won a Senior championship in 1957 but nonetheless he is a child of the 50’s apparently. Work it out yourselves. Happy Birthday Mícheál.

The team on duty was: Gerry Gearty, Seamus Mallon, Morgan Shanley, Jason Conroy, Shane Conroy (0-1), John Mc Guinness, Conor Mc Cauley, Gary Mc Closkey (0-1), Colm Farrell, Trevor Howard (0-1), Niall O Connor (0-1), Mark Mc Closkey (0-3), Philip Howard (0-2), David O Connor (0-2) and Declan Shanley. All Ireland Scor Finals
No joy for our Tráth na gCeist team in the All Ireland finals in Killarney on Sunday last. It was Bornacoola’s fourth time in the Question Time final and this was the closest we had come to victory as just two marks separated our team of Aidan Dockery, Liam Rabbitte and Feargal Mc Gill from eventual winners Cornafean of Cavan at the end. The other four Leitrim entries all performed excellently, but unfortunately no success for the county on the night. However, there was terrific Leitrim support at the finals and it was great to see a large contingent from Bornacoola in attendance this year. Go raibh maith agaibh go léir.

Division 3 League
The Division 3 team are still without a league victory as they suffered a narrow defeat against Mohill on Sunday last – final score Bornacoola 2-7 Mohill 1-11. Next Sunday the lads travel to Manorhamilton to play the home side in a game that will have a 2.30pm throw-in.

Division 5 League
The Division 5 team have been playing exceptionally well of late, but face a difficult journey on Monday next as they travel north to play St Osnatt’s at 2pm.

U-14 League
The U-14’s played Gortletteragh on Friday night and were unlucky to lose by two points. However, the boys played excellent in the 2nd half coming back from 8 points down with the Gortletteragh goalie saving well to deny us a victory. Final score was 3-9 to 3-7. The team was: Shane Sullivan, Kieran Campbell, Barry Reid, Sean Muldowney, Mark Muldowney (2-1), Liam Mulligan, Kevin Shanley (0-3), Conor Hackett (1-3), Feargal Hackett and Karl Mallon. The boys now play Aughavas on Friday next at 7pm in Aughavas.

U-10 Team
The U-10 team played Aughnasheelin at the weekend and the two teams served up a quality game of football that was testament to the great coaching work being carried out with these young footballers by the coaching personnel in both clubs. Our thanks to Brian Mallon who refereed the game and most especially to Derek Hunt in the Copper Still who sponsored goody bags for the players.

Club Draw
The May Club Draw takes place in the Shannon Key West Hotel on Saturday night next, May 3rd. Music on the night by Evan O Donnell and your support will be greatly appreciated.

Connacht Minor Championship
Best of luck to Leitrim on Saturday in their Connacht Minor championship clash with Roscommon and in particular to our own Niall O Connor, Sean Mc Keon and Paul Hackett who are involved with the county team.

Engagement
Our very best wishes to Morgan Shanley and Claire Foley (Kilclare) who got engaged on their recent trip to Australia. Morgan has been an outstanding player on the senior team since the late 90’s and Claire of course is a proud Kiltubrid woman. Indeed many of the Bor lads think she played a key role in helping her parish win the county title of 2005 by keeping Morgan safely off the field of play and far away in Australia! Best wishes to you both in your lives together and congratulations from everyone in Bornacoola.

U-16 League

U-16 League
The U-16 team played very well against a strong Glenfarne on Friday evening last, but a number of good goal chances for Bornacoola went a-begging and the North Leitrim side triumphed after an entertaining game. Shield

The Senior team have their second game of the year when they make the short journey to Annaduff on Saturday evening for a 6.30pm throw-in in the Shield.

Division 3

An entertaining game against near neighbours Eslin on Sunday morning last in the first game of the year for the Junior A team, saw a late Seamus Mallon point rescue a draw for Bornacoola. Eslin, playing against the breeze, started the game much the brighter and an early goal gave the home side an advantage they held throughout the first half. An Aiden Reilly goal mid way through the second half put the Bors in front for the first time in the game, but Eslin hit back to lead in the dying minutes before Mallon’s late score salvaged a draw. Team: Gerry Gearty, John Reynolds, Seamus Mallon, Brian Mallon, Mervyn Howard, Niall O Connor, Niall Mc Gowan, Colm Farrell, Bobby Shanley, Jonathan Duffy, Sean Mc Keon, Feargal Howard, John Bohan, Aidan Reilly, Declan Shanley. Subs used: Brian Conroy and John Shanley.

Retirement

All at the club send their best wishes to former player Frankie Bohan who retired from An Garda Síochána recently after many years of dedicated service. Frank won a Connacht U-21 championship medal with the county in 1977 and was one of our key players when we won the Junior League in 1983. A regular with the Leitrim Seniors (along with Noel Mahon) in the early 80’s, he was the backbone of Bornacoola adult teams throughout the seventies, eighties and into the nineties. Sons Christopher and Richard have starred in recent years in the black and amber and the entire Bohan family have given great service to Bornacoola GAA over the years. Well done Frank and we hope you have a most enjoyable retirement.

Ladies

The Ladies team had an excellent league victory over Ballinaglera on Sunday morning last. Despite trailing at half time, they rallied strongly in the second half to record their first win of the season. Well done to all.

Division 5

Our Division 5 team recorded their third win in a row when they had a good victory over Kiltubrid – 2-16 to 4-1 – on Saturday night last. First half goals from Damian Moran and Mervyn Howard set us on our way in a performance that was notable for a number of excellent scores.
Team on duty was: Ollie Vaughan, Sean Ryan, Brian Reilly, John Shanley, Brendan Duignan, Richard Bohan, Jackie Conboy, Peter Mallon, Feargal Howard, Damian Moran, Aidan Reilly, Mervyn Howard, Gerry Gearty, John Bohan and Alan Croghan. Subs used: David Mulligan, Alan Bohan and Seoirse Reynolds.

Leitrim Supporters Club

Our own Shay Reynolds was to the forefront in organising this year’s Leitrim Supporter’s club campaign. Our thanks to all who supported and best wishes to the county team in their key game against Limerick in a fortnight.

Injury

Michael Duignan suffered a nasty injury on Sunday last in the Allianz League game against Down and it looks like he will miss quite a bit of the season on the back of this. However, we send him our best wishes and knowing Mick, he will be back playing before too long.

Sympathy

We would like to extend our deepest Sympathies to the Moran family (Mohill) on the recent passing of Padraig Moran, father of referee and ladies board official Kieran. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Scór Tickets

Any one interested in obtaining tickets for the All Ireland finals of Scór in Killarney on April 26th are asked to contact Leitrim Scór Secretary Maura Mulvey (087 6486967) or our own Shay Reynolds (071 96 38244) as soon as possible.

Defibrillators

A community initiative supported by the GAA club to provide a number of defibrillators is currently underway. House to house collections to cover the costs of the initiative will be happening in the near future and we would ask you to support this very worthwhile project.

Our minors were in action against Ballinamore on last Sunday morning with the town team enjoying a comfortable 4-10 to 2-4 victory. There was a very strong wind blowing which favoured Ballinamore in the first half and indeed they took full advantage of it clocking up a lead of 2-8 to 0-2 at half time. In the second half Bornacoola upped their game with the wind and with two goals from Niall O’Connor and Mervyn Howard things were looking a bit better but Ballinamore were always the stronger and replied with two more goals.
Team and scorers were; Harry Comiskey, Sean Ryan, Roy Keenan, Kevin Canning, Damian Moran, Damian McGowan, Niall O’Connor 1-0, Paul Hackett, David Mulligan, Mervyn Howard 1-0, Alan Bohan, Sean McKeon 0-4, Alan Croghan. Subs used were Anthony Mulligan and Darren McGushin.

Golf Classic
The club will once again be running a Golf Classic in 2008, so make sure to keep Saturday, May 24th free in the diary and the competition will be held in Carrick on Shannon golf club.

Sympathy
Everyone involved in the club wish to extend our condolences to Gortletteragh GAA and in particular to the family of Stephen Doorigan, Tooman, who died suddenly in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda on Saturday last.
The Doorigan family are one of the great GAA clans in the county and it was no surprise that from an early age Stephen immersed himself in the playing of our national games and indeed all aspects of club life with his beloved Gortletteragh. He showed great promise at underage level and throughout his young life starred as both a hurler and footballer for Gortleterragh, St Mel’s and Leitrim as the need arose. Indeed he was one of the stars of the Gortletteragh team that reached the county senior football final in 2004 and scored three points in the decider against Annaduff.
Despite being taken from his family and friends at such a young age, Stephen had achieved an incredible amount in his 24 years. To Mickey, Helena and Rachel we offer our sympathies and we know how rightly proud you were of your son and brother. He earned the respect and admiration of all who played against him and were fortunate enough to have known him.
Stephen was laid to rest in Gortletteragh cemetery on Monday and the huge crowds who attended his funeral bore testament to the respect with which Stephen and the entire Doorigan family are held. Níor dhéanaimid dearmad air - solas na bhflaitheas dá anam.

We’d also like to thank all of the venues who have hosted the draw throughout the year and a particular word of thanks to Kevin Mallon and his select team who have worked extremely hard in promoting the draw. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir. Tickets for the 2008 draws will be on sale in the next fortnight.

Annual General Meeting
The AGM takes place this Sunday morning in the Community Centre at 11.30am. All interested in the club and its affairs are invited to attend. In particular we would welcome new members from around the area to come along and get involved with us for 2008.

Scór na nÓg
A great night for Barr na Cúille at the County Scór finals in Manorhamilton on Sunday last as the club captured county titles in Question Time (Tráth na gCeist) and Novelty Act (Nuachleas). The Question Time team was Tony Shanley, Mark Muldowney and Paul Dockery. Ronan Mulligan, Feargal Hackett, Carl Mallon, Coleen Bohan, Sara Reid, Orla Mc Weeney, Sean Muldowney and Shannon Boyle participated in the Novelty Act.
Both now go on to the Connacht Finals. However, the real celebrations were reserved for the winning of the Club of the Year Award – an outstanding achievement in light of what was an extremely competitive year in Leitrim Scór. All of those who participated – both in the semi-finals and again on Sunday, and all who gave of their time in assisting the Bornacoola Scór effort deserve great praise. Comhghairdeas daoibh uile.

Sympathies
On behalf of the club we would like to extend our sympathies to the Beirne family on the recent passings of Michael John and his sister Mary Ellen (Comerford). Both were living in the States but were originally from Cloontumpher. Michael John of course was a member of the last Bornacoola team to win the Leitrim Championship in 1957. He was unfortunately unable to attend the tribute night to that team last February, but his award did reach him in America. Over the Christmas period, Leitrim GAA lost two of its great personalities in Tony Mc Gowan and Tommy Riordan. Both men gave incredible service to Leitrim and we extend our sympathies to their families. Finally, the death has occurred in London of Dan Bohan (Tooman). To the Bohan and Conboy families we extend our deepest sympathies.

GOAL Mile
A note to hand from Noel Mahon to extend his thanks to all who helped out with and participated in the GOAL mile on New Year’s Day. As always, Noel had the organisation of the event down to a tee and his commitment to this most worthwhile of projects is deserving of exceptional praise.

FBD League
Liatroim got their FBD league campaign off to a winning start against GMIT on Sunday last. Michael Duignan, Gary Mc Closkey and David O Connor represented Bornacoola on the field, while Philip Howard was named among the substitutes. It was a particularly pleasing day for Gary Mc Closkey, who had the honour of captaining his county in the game. Galway now visit Pairc Seán on Sunday in a game which will have a 2pm throw-in.
