Masonite Senior Championship

Bornacoola 1-10 Mohill 0-11

Bornacoola qualified for their fifth consecutive Masonite Senior Championship semi-final with a two point victory over neighbours Mohill in Ballinamore on Sunday evening last.

The Bors started brightly and established a 0-4 to 0-1 lead early on. However, Mohill were very strong in the second quarter and had deservingly levelled the game at 0-5 apiece by half time. They also started the second half in control and it took a goal from Colm Farrell to keep Bornacoola in contention.

However, as the second half wore on, the Bors began to find their feet and some well taken scores earned a hard fought victory on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-11. Team and scorers: Feargal Mc Gill, Damian Mc Guinness, Conor Mc Cauley, Jason Conroy, John Mc Guinness, Morgan Shanley, Niall O Connor, Michael Duignan (0-2), Colm Farrell (1-1), Damian Moran (0-1), David O Connor (0-1), Trevor Howard, Philip Howard (0-2), Mark Mc Closkey (0-2), Brian Conroy. Subs used: Sean Mc Keon, Jonathan Duffy.

A word of congratulations to Cumman Seán Uí hEislin on their exceptional new facilities. The pitch was in fantastic condition despite the monsoons which fell at the weekend and the new stand and dressing room facilities are of an exceptional quality and something all of Ballinamore and Leitrim should be proud of. Next up for the Bors is a re-play of last years County Final as Glencar/Manorhamilton provide the semi-final opposition

Masonite Senior Championship
Bornacoola suffered a one point defeat to Aughnasheelin in the deciding game in our Senior championship group in Cloone on Saturday last. In a game that never really got going until the second half, Aughnasheelin showed much greater hunger and were well deserving of their victory on a 1-8 to 0-10 scoreline. However, the Bors do progress to the quarter finals by virtue of our earlier victory over Carrigallen and Mohill will provide the opposition in a game that will be played on the weekend of August 23rd.

U-14 Title
Pride of place this week to our wonderful U-14 team who captured the 9-a-side title on Friday evening last when they overcame a gallant Glenfarne team in an entertaining and sporting final in Leitrim village. It has been an excellent year for the boys at this level and they worked tremendously hard throughout the championship to maintain their unbeaten record. They have also been very sporting throughout and this is every bit as important as winning titles.
Congratulations to team manager Seamus Mallon and to the entire panel of Shane Sullivan, Brian Duffy, Liam Mulligan, Robert O'Beirne, Ciaran Campbell, Sean Muldowney, Ronan Mulligan, Kevin Shanley, Dillon Hackett, Fergal Hackett, Gearoid Mulligan, Kevin Mulligan, Liam Jones and Karl Mallon.

Senior Championship
Carrigallen made the Bors fight all the way in a tight game at Cloone on Saturday evening last. Bornacoola made the early running and led by 0-6 to 0-3 midway through the first half. However Carrigallen rattled off 1-3 without reply to take a three point lead into the break. An excellent opening ten minutes to the second half saw the Bors register six unanswered scores and despite some late Carrigallen pressure, we held on for a 0-14 to 1-9 victory.
Team and Scorers: Feargal Mc Gill, Damian Mc Guinness, Seamus Mallon, Jason Conroy, John Mc Guinness, Morgan Shanley (0-1), Conor Mc Cauley, Michael Duignan (0-2), Colm Farrell, David O Connor (0-1), Niall O Connor (0-1), Feargal Howard, Brian Conroy (0-1), Mark Mc Closkey (0-4) and Philip Howard (0-4). Sub: Niall Mc Gowan. Our second game in the group takes place this weekend when we face Aughnasheelin in Cloone on Saturday evening at 7.15pm.

Ladies Final
The ladies played Glencar/Manorhamilton in the 9-a-side final in Leitrim village on Saturday last. Unfortunately for our girls, they never really got into their stride as Glencar/Manor dominated throughout and recorded a comfortable victory. Nonetheless, the girls have made a lot of progress this year and there is still plenty of football to come as they look forward to the championship.

Junior Championship
The Junior A team got their championship underway on Bank Holiday Monday when they played Melvin Gaels in Leitrim village. A great start from Bornacoola left us six points up at half time having played with a strong breeze. Melvin Gaels rallied strongly in the second half however and the game finished in a 0-10 to 0-10 draw. They now take on St Mary’s next Sunday at 6pm in Ballinamore.

Minor Championship
Our next game in the Minor Championship will be on Wednesday, August 12th in Dromod where St Caillins will be the opposition.
