Senior League
We played Gortletteragh in our second game in the second series of the league in Dromod on Sunday and a return to form saw us emerge with a four point victory in a lively game on a scoreline of 0-13 to 0-9 despite missing a number of regulars.
The players on duty on Sunday were: Feargal Mc Gill, Damian Mc Guinness, Seamus Mallon, John Mc Guinness, Shane Conroy, Jason Conroy, Richard Bohan, Michael Duignan (0-2), Gary Mc Closkey, Mark Mc Closkey (0-5), Bobby Shanley, Philip Howard, Brian Mallon (0-1), Colm Farrell (0-2) and Brian Conroy (0-3).
Subs used were Daniel Canning, Michael John Winters and Niall Mc Gowan.
We have two games remaining in this section of the league and two wins would more than likely earn us a league final appearance. The games are against St Marys on Saturday evening next in Dromod at 5pm and on Saturday week (22nd) away to Kiltubrid (4.30pm).

Minor League
Our minor team completed the league and championship double when they overcame Eslin by six points on Saturday morning last in Cloone. Played in good weather conditions we started strongly and held a 5 point lead at halftime on a scoreline of Bornacoola 0-6 to Eslin 0-1 with Sean Mc Keon, Fergal Howard and Oliver Vaughan supplying the Bornacoola scores.
Eslin started the second half brightly with a few early scores, but midway through the second half a fine Bornacoola move was finished to the Eslin net by fullback Conor Mc Cauley. This was the crucial score of the game and we held out to win by 6 points 1-8 to 0-5.
This win capped off a great year at this level and much credit must be given to all the panel of players who trained very hard all year for this success. We would like to commiserate with Eslin who played very good football throughout the game and no doubt they will be back.
The management and players would like to say a big thank you to TP Cox & Staff of Coxs Steakhouse for the lovely meal provided after the game.
At this stage we wish David O Connor a speedy recovery from injury sustained playing in a College game during the week, no doubt if fit he would have played a big part in the Final.
The team & scorers versus Eslin was; Daragh Gavigan, Niall O Connor, Conor Mc Cauley (1-0), Damian Mc Gowan, Jason Conroy, Fergal Howard (0-2), Oliver Vaughan (0-1), Sean Mc Keon (0-4), Declan Shanley (0-1). Subs; Stephen Reilly, Mervyn Howard, Paul Mc Gushin, Sean Ryan, Paul Hackett.

Under 16 Championship

We would appreciate a big Bornacoola support at this game as the lads aim for Championship victory following their League success earlier in the summer.

County Hurling Final
Seamus Mallon was our sole representative on the Gaeil an Chontae team that played St Marys in the county hurling final on Sunday last but he gave a terrific performance in the middle of the field to earn the Man of the Match award.
Brendan Duignan and Brian and Shane Conroy were on the subs bench for the amalgamation who were defeated by 2-10 to 1-7.

Race Night
The Annual Race night will take place in the Brandywell on Saturday night, October 29th. Horses and jockeys are currently available from members of the club priced at €10 each.

Best Wishes
We’d like to extend our best wishes to Dermot Shanley who is heading off travelling for the year. Dermot has been one of the club’s most loyal servants over the last number of years. He had a glittering underage career that included a county U21 championship medal and featured regularly at senior level in recent years as well as captaining the Intermediate team in 2005.
No doubt Dermot will return to assist the club in future campaigns, but for the moment we say goodbye to a great servant.
