All Roads lead to the Shannon Key Hotel in Rooskey on Saturday night next as the eagerly awaited “B” Factor takes place in the hotel. This is the club’s main fundraiser for the year and tickets are currently on sale from members of the club for €15 each.

The lads played Dromahaire in the U21 Championship on Saturday last. Despite dominating possession for long periods, the Bors failed to convert a number of good scoring chances and despite a well taken goal by Declan Shanley, exited the championship by two points on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-11.
The Bornacoola team and scorers was: Oliver Vaughan, Damien Mc Guinness, Conor Mc Cauley, Damian Mc Gowan, Niall O Connor, Paul Hackett, David O Connor (0-4), Jason Conroy, Mervyn Howard, Sean Mc Keon (0-2), David Mulligan, Declan Shanley (1-2), Feargal Howard (0-3). Sub: Padraig Duffy.

U-12 Football
Best of luck to the U-12 team who are playing in the Shane Brennan tournament in Clonguish on Saturday. First game at 4 and all players are asked to assemble from 3pm.

Tom Mc Gushin R.I.P
All at the club would like to extend their sympathies to the Mc Gushin family on the untimely passing of Tom Mc Gushin (Luton). Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Senior League
The Senior team played their last game of the year against Carrigallen in Dromod on Sunday afternoon last. A point behind at half time, the Bors battled hard throughout the second half, but two goals at opportune moments ensured victory for the visitors on a 3-9 to 0-13 scoreline.
The Bornacoola team and scorers was: Feargal Mc Gill, Damian Mc Guinness, Conor Mc Cauley, Seamus Mallon, Niall Mc Gowan, John Mc Guinness, Niall O Connor, Gary Mc Closkey, Colm Farrell, Trevor Howard (0-2), Morgan Shanley, Mark Mc Closkey (0-7), Sean Mc Keon, Michael Duignan (0-3) and Philip Howard. Sub used: David O Connor (0-1) and Declan Shanley.
The players would like to extend their thanks to a number of people who were involved with us in the background throughout the year including Fionnula Howard, Michael Shanley, Michael Farrell, Tommy Larkin and Tom Duignan. Your assistance in various ways was very much appreciated. We’d also like to extend our thanks to manager Paddy Maguire, who has left Bornacoola after three exciting years and of course to Shane Reynolds and Noel Mc Closkey whose commitment to the team was exceptional throughout that period. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir.
Finally, a word of praise for the County Board and in particular the Competitions Control Committee for the manner in which the leagues and championship were run off this year. The season began for the Bornacoola senior team on April 21st and between league, shield and championship competitions, we played 19 competitive games in what was effectively a 26 week playing season. The regularity with which games were provided, not to mention the increase in games from previous years, is something to be welcomed by everyone who has the best interests of the club game and club players at heart and will play a significant role in the transformation from a “training” based to a games based culture.
Well done to the County Board and hopefully this successful template will be adopted as a benchmark for future years.

Ladies Championship
The Ladies played St Mary’s in the championship on Sunday morning last in Fenagh. The first half was extremely close, but Carrick made better use of their chances and went in at the break 0-6 to 0-3 ahead. An injury to Kelly Howard severely curtailed Bornacoola’s chances but notwithstanding this it took two excellent saves from the St Mary’s keeper to keep the Bornacoola forward line at bay early in the second half when a goal might well have changed the course of the game. As it was, St Mary’s scored the vital goal with about ten minutes left to play and a committed performance for Bornacoola wasn’t enough for progression.
The Bornacoola team was: Michelle Reilly, Susan Shanley, Orla Bohan, Niamh Reynolds, Lisa Mc Gowan, Sarah Duffy, Jillian Duignan, Louise Farrell, Leonie Duffy, Kelly Howard, Fiona Reilly, Cora Mc Cauley and Emma Moffatt. Sub used Meave Duffy.
The Ladies would like to thank their trainer Jonathan Duffy for his excellent work throughout the year and also Adrian Donlon of the The Vibe in Dromod who sponsored a new set of jersies, togs and socks for the championship and Charlie Duignan, Irish Contract Seating, who is sponsoring hooded tops for the ladies.

Happy Birthday
Our best wishes to Damian Mc Guinness (Cloncarne) who is celebrating his 21st next weekend. The party is in the Copper Still on Sunday night and there is an open invitation to everyone in the club to attend

Best Wishes
Everyone in Bornacoola send their best wishes to club player, set dancer and all round entertainer John “Barnes” Shanley and his bride to be Louise Crowe from Dromod who will be getting married on Saturday next. No doubt you will both have a great and many years of happiness together.

Ladies Football
The Ladies play St Mary’s on Sunday in their biggest game of the season. The girls have been training hard all year for a crack at championship glory and we wish them all the best in a game which takes place in Fenagh at 12pm. Preparations were helped last weekend when the girls played their final league game against Ballinaglera. An excellent display from Bornacoola, and in particular from Michelle Reilly in goals, ended in disappointment as Ballinaglera stole victory with a point in injury time. Nonetheless there was much to enthuse about from a Bornacoola perspective and we hope there will be big support for the girls for Sunday’s crucial game. Ádh mór oraibh

Minor Championship
The Minor team rounded off a great year for themselves at this level when they played Drumkeerin in the championship final in Carrick on Friday evening last. In what was a very close game, the crucial score was a goal punched to the net by Paul Hackett which sealed a two point victory for the Bors as captain Feargal Howard collected the trophy on behalf of his team mates. Our congratulations to all of the boys involved and also to mentors Jackie Conboy and Brian Mallon for their hard work throughout the year.
The team in the final was: Damian Moran, Sean Ryan, Conor Mc Cauley, Mervyn Howard, Damian Mc Gowan, Kevin Canning, Niall O Connor, Paul Hackett, David Mulligan, Feargal Howard, Sean Mc Keon, Allan Croghan and Declan Shanley. Subs were Harry Cumiskey and Darren Mc Gushin

County Final
Our congratulations to Drumreilly and St Mary’s on their championship wins at the weekend and we wish them both well as they represent Leitrim in the Connacht Championships. In our semi-final defeat to Kiltubrid, defenders Damian Mc Guinness and Daniel Canning suffered injuries which may keep them out of the game for some time. While Damien should be back in action relatively quickly, Daniel’s injury is quite serious and he will probably be out of the game for the next year. It is a tough blow to a man who would have been a serious contender for Club Player of the Year and all your team mates, club officials and Bornacoola supporters send their best wishes for a quick recovery.

All of the usual attractions and many new innovations will be there with something for all ages. All club members who are free to act as stewards are asked to make themselves available as there is much work to be done on both Saturday and Sunday

The club would like to record their thanks to a number of generous sponsors who helped out in preparing the Senior team for the recent championship run. In particular we would like to express our gratitude to the Mc Gowan Brothers who sponsored a new set of jersey’s, Frank Moran and the Weir Lodge for providing togs and socks and Derek Hunt in the Copper Still for polo shirts for the players. It is all deeply appreciated.

Senior Championship
Bornacoola exited the Senior Championship at the semi-final stage on Sunday against Kiltubrid. In a very even first half, the teams went in level at half time. Senior Championship
The Senior team face into their third county semi-final in as many years when they travel to Pairc Sean on Sunday evening for a 6.30pm throw-in against 2005 County Champions Kiltubrid. The best of luck to all concerned and we hope there will be a large and colourful Bornacoola contingent present to cheer on the lads.

Junior C Championship
The Junior C team got their championship campaign underway when playing St Osnatts on Saturday last at the new Leitrim Gaels grounds in Leitrim village. Osnatts began with the wind and led by 1-4 to 0-1 at the break with Bornacoola’s lone score of the 1st half coming from the boot of John Shanley. In the second period, an early penalty goal put Bornacoola nine points behind and it seemed that the game had gone away from the Bors, but a great revival throughout the second half saw us come up just short as the North Leitrim team held on for a 2-6 to 1-7 victory as the Bors wasted a number of chances that might have won the game. There were tremendous performances from the likes of Sean Ryan, Paul Derwin, David Faughnan, David Mulligan and Kevin Mallon in the second half.
The Bornacoola team and scorers was: Pat Farrell, Paul Derwin, Shane Reynolds, Sean Ryan, Jackie Conboy, Brendan Duignan, Michael Farrell, Peter Mallon, Kevin Mallon (0-1), John Shanley (0-1), Declan Conboy, David Mulligan (0-1), Gerry Gearty (1-0), Feargal Mc Gill (0-3), Seoirse Reynolds. Senior Championship
We reached our third county semi-final in a row with a narrow victory over Sean O Heslins in Cloone on Saturday evening last. Played in terrible weather conditions, the game was close throughout but early in the second half Bornacoola had established a four point lead. The Ballinamore team came storming back into the game and it took some frantic defending to see us over the line. We now face Kiltubrid in the semi-final in what is a repeat of the 2005 county final. The team on Saturday evening was: Bobby Shanley, Damian Mc Guinness, Morgan Shanley, Jason Conroy, Conor Mc Cauley, John Mc Guinness, Danny Canning, Michael Duignan, Gary Mc Closkey, Trevor Howard (0-1), Colm Farrell (0-1), Philip Howard, Declan Shanley (0-3), David O Connor and Mark Mc Closkey (0-4)

Junior Championship
The Junior team were unlucky to lose to Allen Gaels in Annaduff on Sunday on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-13. For the second week in a row, a disallowed goal cost the team dearly and we are now into a relegation play-off to maintain our status at this level.
On duty for Bornacoola were: Ollie Vaughan, Gerald Moffatt, Seamus Mallon, Christy Bohan, Brendan Duignan, Brian Mallon, John Reynolds, Niall O Connor, Robbie Moran, Feargal Howard, Sean Mc Keon, Paul Hackett, Damian Mc Gowan, Niall Mc Gowan and John Bohan, Sub used: Seoirse Reynolds

Wedding Bells
All at the club send their best wishes to former Bornacoola player Kevin Reynolds and new wife Catherine (nee Wynne) who were married on Friday last.

Engagements
Esker was the place to be last week as Bornacoola stalwarts Pat Farrell and Niamh Reynolds both announced their engagements. Former Leitrim, UCD, St Mels and Bornacoola star Pat will be getting married to Linda St Leger. Linda hails from Dublin, and no doubt Hubie will have lined up an intensive agricultural training course to ensure she adopts to Leitrim life as smoothly as possible (I’d say Pat could do with a refresher course at this stage too!).
Meanwhile, neighbour Niamh will marry Enda Delaney from Laois who will be well known to all in Bornacoola as he has been living in Dromod for some time now (always carry a spare key with you Enda!). We wish both couples the very best of luck in their lives together.

Leitrim v Donegal
The Leitrim team came up just short once again in Pairc Sean on Saturday evening. However, it was an incredible game and one of the best performances given by a Leitrim team for many years. The players have put in an unbelievable amount of effort since before last Christmas and have given much enjoyment to Leitrim supporters in the past few months. We thank them for their sacrifices and for the terrific memories from 2007 including the great win in the Hyde, the excitement of the Monaghan game in Cloone, the trip to London and the immense displays against Donegal and Galway. A special word for the five Bornacoola players who played their part over the course of the year – Gary Mc Closkey, Michael Duignan, David O Connor, Philip Howard and Colm Farrell who did the club proud.

A great day too for former Bornacoola star Frankie Bohan who was in the Hyde to be introduced to the crowd at the Connacht final as part of the 1977 Leitrim U21 team that won the Connacht championship. The team were later honoured at a Banquet in the Abbey Hotel. Congratulations to Frankie and his team mates – indeed Frank looked as fit as ever out on the pitch and one suspects he could still fill a jersey for the Juniors if called on!

Shield A
A late surge in our Shield A game against Glenfarne wasn’t enough to secure the points, as the concession of three first half goals ultimately denied Bornacoola their second win in the group as the visitors triumphed on a scoreline of 3-4 to 1-8. An excellent Senior debut from Declan Shanley saw him score 1-2 and the Shield has proved very useful in this regard as the likes of Christy Bohan, Ollie Vaughan and Damian Mc Gowan have also been able to cut their teeth at senior level over the past few weeks.
The team on Saturday was: Ollie Vaughan, Brian Mallon, Jason Conroy, Damien Mc Guinness, John Reynolds, Daniel Canning, John Mc Guinness, Morgan Shanley, Bobby Shanley, Trevor Howard, John Bohan, Brian Conroy, Mark Mc Closkey (0-5) and Feargal Mc Gill (0-1). Sub used: Declan Shanley (1-2)

1000 Points Challenge
Our underage players turned out in great numbers on Saturday to take part in the 1000 Point Challenge. The fundraising drive for the young players was well supported again this year and with special thanks to the parents who braved the elements on Saturday morning to cheering on the young Bors.

Please note that there will be no underage training this Saturday morning.

Division 5
The Division 5 team have been enjoying a rich vein of form recently and recorded an excellent victory over Gortletteragh on Sunday last on a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-5.

So please come along and support as the provision of Defibrillators will be of major benefit to all living in the parish and surrounding area.

Shield A
Allen Gaels were the visitors to Dromod on Saturday evening for our second shield A game. The Bornacoola team was: Ollie Vaughan, Damien Mc Guinness, Jason Conroy, Brian Mallon, Richard Bohan, Daniel Canning, Shane Conroy, John Mc Guinness, Morgan Shanley (0-1), John Bohan (0-1), Bobby Shanley (0-1), Niall Mc Gowan, Feargal Mc Gill (0-1), Mark Mc Closkey (0-1) and Brian Conroy. Division 5
The Division 5 team recorded their second victory on the bounce when St Osnatt’s were the visitors to Dromod on Sunday. The lads travel to Gortletteragh on Sunday next at 2pm in this Division.

Thousand Point Challenge
Don’t forget that once again this year our underage players are organising a one thousand point challenge. Sponsorship cards are currently in circulation and hopefully there will be a positive response to their initiative as they will attempt to kick 1,000 points in Dromod on Saturday.

Exams

A number of ladies and men’s footballers in the club are currently occupied with their Leaving and Junior Cert exams. Best of luck to everyone.

National School Shield Final
Bornacoola played Drumshanbo in the final of the Girls National School Shield competition. In a thrilling game, the Bors came from eight points down to level the game in the final minute. However, the Drumshanbo girls rallied to the winning score at the final whistle to cling on for a 6-8 to 5-10 victory. Nonetheless, it was a terrific performance from the Bornacoola girls who have excelled all year under the tutorship of Orla Bohan.
This year’s panel included Maria Cumiskey, Lisa Geelan, Nadine Hackett, Zoe Cosgrove, Laura Jones, Orla Mc Weeney, Sarah Mc Weeney, Shannon Boyle, Clara Reid, Tanya Donnelly, Celine Bolger, Coleen Bohan and Dawn Hackett

The winners on the night were Jim Hunt (€100), Daniel Tiernan, Anthony Sheridan, John Neary, Brendan Hackett and Tom Shanley (€20 each). A voucher sponsored by the Brandywell was also won by Brendan Hackett.

U-12 Games
The U-12’s have been working hard over the past few months under the guidance of Bobby Shanley, Philip Howard and Kevin Mallon and played two games over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend. Some great football to enthuse over as the team had two comfortable victories over North Leitrim opposition in St Osnatt’s (on Friday evening) and Glenfarne (on Bank Holiday Monday).
The panel for these games included: Shane Sullivan, Feargal Hackett, Ciaran Campbell, Sean Muldowney, Liam Mulligan, Nadine Hackett, Josh Francis, Kevin Shanley, Ronan Mulligan, Liam Jones and Gearoid Mulligan. Well done to all involved and we look forward to charting their progress over the next couple of weeks.

Senior League
The Senior team made the long journey to Manorhamilton on Saturday evening last for their fourth game of the Division 1 campaign. In a very close game a long distance free from Philip Howard in injury time secured a vital win for Bornacoola.
The team was: Feargal Mc Gill, Damian Mc Guinness, Morgan Shanley, Jason Conroy, Shane Conroy, John Mc Guinness, Danny Canning, Michael Duignan, Gary Mc Closkey, Philip Howard, Colm Farrell, Niall Mc Gowan, David O Connor, Mark Mc Closkey and Brian Conroy. Sub used Seamus Mallon.

Senior League
We played Mohill in our third league game on Saturday evening in Dromod. Mohill made the better start and were in front for most of the game but a late Bornacoola rally ensured a share of the spoils.
The team was: Bobby Shanley, Damian Mc Guinness, Conor Mc Cauley, Jason Conroy, Shane Conroy, John Mc Guinness, Danny Canning, Michael Duignan, Gary Mc Closkey, Philip Howard, Trevor Howard, Niall Mc Gowan, Mark Mc Closkey, Morgan Shanley and Brian Conroy. Subs used were Niall O Connor and Seamus Mallon.

Junior League
The Junior team played Sean O Heslins in Division 3 on Sunday morning and got off to a great start when Brian Conroy goaled in the first half. Early in the 2nd half goals from Brian again and John Bohan put Bornacoola firmly in control but it took a penalty save from Ollie Vaughan to keep Bornacoola in front. A fourth goal, this time from Danny Canning, sealed the points on a scoreline of 4-9 to 1-7.
The team was: Ollie Vaughan, John Reynolds, Seamus Mallon, Brian Mallon, Niall Mc Gowan, Conor Mc Cauley, Brendan Duignan, Trevor Howard, Danny Canning, Feargal Howard, Niall O Connor, John Bohan, Aiden Reilly, Brian Conroy and Sean Mc Keon. Senior League
Bornacoola kicked off their senior league campaign for 2007 with a victory over Aughawillan in Dromod on Saturday evening last. The crucial score of the game was a fine Colm Farrell goal in the second half which ensured victory on a scoreline of 1-14 to 2-5.

Ladies Football

The Ladies team are scheduled to play Glencar/Manor at home on Sunday next. The team have been training hard over the past few weeks and a number of old faces have returned to the fold.

U-14 Training
There is training for all U-14’s tonight (Tuesday). All panel members intending to play in Féile should be in attendance for team photos.

Scór Sinsear

Our Tráth na gCeist team of Aiden Dockery, Liam Rabbitte and Feargal Mc Gill head to Killarney on Saturday next for the All Ireland finals of Scór Sinsear. This is the third time that Bornacoola have qualified for the All Ireland final in Question Time at Senior level and the hope is that it will be third time lucky. Best wishes to our fellow Leitrim participants Dromahaire (instrumental music), Glencar/Manor (Figure Dancing), Sinead Egan (Aughnasheelin – Solo Singing) and the Fenagh Novelty Act.

Sympathy
Our sympathy is extended to all who mourn Fr Kevin Sullivan, PP Eanach Dubh who passed away last week. Fr Kevin was a great GAA man and liked nothing better than to pass an hour or two talking football. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a Anam Dhílis.

Dublin Championship

The Dublin Senior football Championship is underway and our own David O’Connor starred at midfield for holders UCD on Wednesday night last as they defeated Garda in the first round. A couple of years ago, another current Bornacoola player – Philip Howard – also played in the Dublin Senior Championship with Erin’s Hope (the St Patrick’s College GAA club). Indeed over the years many Bornacoola players have played in Dublin – Michael Farrell (Postal Gaels) and Ciaran Fallon (Civil Service) are two of a recent vintage that spring to mind.

Ladies U-14
The Ladies U-14 team were involved in a great game against Fenagh last week. In a game that was close throughout, Bornacoola emerged as three point winners on a 2-10 to 2-7 scoreline. This is the first time that we’ve had an U-14 team since 2004, so it was terrific to get the year underway with a victory. The team on duty was Zoe Cosgrove, Sheena Mc Cauley, Sharon Mc Gowan, Tara Hackett, Nadine Hackett, Ciara Hackett, Lisa Geelan and Nicola Rogers

Cumann na mBunscoil
Our girls schools team faced a very strong Aughawillan last week and were unlucky to lose by just a single point. The Bornacoola panel was Maria Cumiskey, Lisa Geelan, Nadine Hackett, Zoe Cosgrove, Laura Jones, Orla Mc Weeney, Sarah Mc Weeney, Shannon Boyle, Clara Reid, Tanya Donnelly, Celine Bolger, Coleen Bohan and Dawn Hackett.

News 16 - 04 - 07

Senior League
Our shield game scheduled for last weekend was cancelled due to the unfortunate passing of John Gormley (Aughnasheelin) – our deepest sympathies are extended to his family. This weekend the Masonite League Division 1 gets underway with a home tie against Aughawillan on Saturday evening at 6.30pm.

U-16 League
The U-16 team played Glenfarne on Friday night last and put in an encouraging performance, but were unlucky to lose to a stronger North Leitrim outfit

Allianz League

A great occasion in Cloone on Sunday and while Leitrim came up just short on the day, it was a very good display from the Leitrim lads against what is a fine Monaghan team. Gary Mc Closkey and Michael Duignan started at midfield while David O Connor made an appearance as a temporary substitute in the first half. Colm Farrell and Philip Howard completed the Bornacoola representation on the panel.

Division 3 League
The Division 3 team maintained their excellent start to the season with a good win over Gortleterragh in Cornageeha on Saturday evening. Despite missing five regulars, the Bors were quickly out of the blocks and scored three goals in the first twenty minutes to leave Gortletteragh with a mountain to climb. The first came from Brian Conroy with Niall Mc Gowan supplying two. A penalty save from Bornacoola keeper Ollie Vaughan denied the home team their best goal scoring chance.
In the second period, Gortletteragh stuck to the task manfully and at one point had reduced a nine point gap to just four but Bornacoola steadied the ship in the closing minutes to run out 3-7 to 0-10 victors.
The team and scorers was: Ollie Vaughan, Brian Mallon, John Reynolds, Christy Bohan, Brendan Duignan, Richie Bohan, Dermot Shanley, Trevor Howard, Danny Canning, Bobby Shanley (0-2), John Bohan, Niall Mc Gowan (2-2), Robert Moran (0-1), Brian Conroy (1-2) and Brian Reilly. Subs used were Sean Ryan and Aiden Reilly while David Mulligan and Mervyn Howard completed the panel on duty.
The action switches to the Shield C Competition on Sunday, when we play Mohill away from home at 12 noon. Annaduff and Sean O Heslins are the other teams in this group.

U-10 Blitz
The latest generation of young Bors gave a fine display on Easter Saturday when they took part in the first of a series of under 10 blitz's. With the sun beaming down many players made debuts as the Bors played four games against Aughnasheelin, Cloone, Aughavas and Kiltubrid. For the record the Bors finished the morning’s football with two wins, a draw and a defeat.
A strong traveling support saw many impressive performances with Luke Jones, Robert Beirne, Kevin Mulligan, Gearoid Mulligan, Michelle Hackett, Liam Jones, Sean Muldowney, Ronan Mulligan, Dillon Vaughan, Karl Mallon, Clara Reed, Cian Mallon, Shane Mallon, Jordon Cramp, Christy Sullivan, Oran Mc Guinness, Tanya Boyle and Aaron Hackett all featuring in the Black and Amber. (Apologies if any names were missed).
Our thanks to Aughasheelin GAA Club for hosting the blitz. A special thanks must be given to the traveling support who made the morning such a success for all involved and of course to trainers John Mc Guinness and John Reynolds for their contribution. Training is as usual at 11am on Saturday morning.

Division 5
The mixed form of the 3rd team continued on Sunday morning when St Caillin’s proved much too strong for us in Fenagh. Final score 3-10 to 0-2 for the home team.

Senior Challenge
Our thanks to Mohill for providing a very useful outing for our senior team on Monday morning last. We play Aughnasheelin in our first game in the Shield A (played without county players) on Saturday next at 6.30pm in Dromod. The other teams in this Division are Kiltubrid, Allen Gaels, Glenfarne and Eslin.

U-16 League
16 LeagueWe’re due to play Glenfarne in Dromod on Friday evening in the U-16 league. Confirmation of the fixtures should be elsewhere in this edition.

Monday, April 02, 2007

Junior A
The Division 3 team began their campaign in impressive fashion with an excellent victory over Mohill in Dromod on Saturday evening. The foundations for the win were laid early when goals from Brian Conroy and John Bohan set us on the road to victory. Mohill fought their way back into the game but two late points ensured we recorded our maiden victory of the 2007 campaign on a 2-9 to 1-10 scoreline.
The team and scorers was: Ollie Vaughan, Christy Bohan, Seamus Mallon, John Reynolds, Conor Mc Cauley (0-1), Richard Bohan, Dermot Shanley, Daniel Canning, Trevor Howard, Feargal Howard (0-1), Niall Mc Gowan (0-3), John Bohan (1-0), Sean Mc Keon (0-2), Brian Conroy (1-1) and Brian Mallon (0-1). Subs used were Robert Moran and Bobby Shanley. The boys are due to play Gortletteragh on Saturday next at 4.30pm in Cornageeha.

Scor Finals
A Connacht Scor title arrived for the club on Saturday night when our Question Time team qualified for the All Ireland final for the second year in a row. Aidan Dockery, Liam Rabbitte and Feargal Mc Gill were on duty and they will now represent Leitrim and Connacht at the All Ireland finals in Killarney on April 29th. Louise Staunton performed for us in Recitation and was unlucky not to join the five Leitrim winners on the night. Our congratulations to Glencar/Manorhamilton Figure Dancers, to Sinead Egan in Solo Singing, to the St Caillin’s Novelty Act and the Instrumental Music group from Dromahair who have all qualified for the All Ireland finals.

Junior B
The 3rd team played St Mary’s on Sunday morning in an entertaining game. Two goals for Carrick – one in either half – effectively wrapped up the points, but had we taken a number of good scoring chances it might have been a lot closer. The full time score was 2-5 to 1-4 and the Bornacoola team was: Ollie Vaughan, Sean Ryan, Richard Bohan, Christy Bohan, Brendan Duignan, John Reynolds, Damian Mc Gowan, Peter Mallon, John Bohan, Jackie Conboy, Feargal Howard, Sean Mc Keon, Mervyn Howard, John Shanley and Brian Reilly. Subs introduced were David Mulligan, Paschal Mahon and Kevin Mallon. This week’s game is against Fenagh on Sunday at 12pm in Fenagh.

Ladies Football
The Ladies team played Annaduff in Páirc Uí Choiligh on Sunday morning in their second league game of the campaign and showed a huge improvement on the previous week. Indeed had we managed to convert a few excellent first half goal chances, the game might have developed differently. As it was, at the other end of the field a certain Mrs Mallon was in terrific form for Annaduff and punished the Bornacoola defence on several occasions. An entertaining game which ended with a 4-9 to 3-1 victory for our neighbours.
The Bornacoola panel on Sunday was Michelle Reilly, Jillian Duignan, Niamh Reynolds. Orla Bohan, Sarah Duffy, Fiona Reilly, Charlotte Faughnan, Lisa Mc Gowan, Leonie Duffy, Cora Mc Cauley, Michelle O Beirne, Alison Mc Keon, Kelly Howard, Maeve Duffy, Louise Staunton and Naomi Faughnan

Around the Club
Our congratulations to former(?) player David Conroy on his recent engagement to Mairead Mc Hugh. We haven’t given up hope of a comeback to the playing fields for Mr Conroy just yet….. A huge crowd at the going away party for club members Naomi Faughnan and Ellen Duignan on Saturday last in the Vibe. The girls are Australia Bound from next weekend and we hope they have a terrific year. We look forward to seeing them back in the Bornacoola colours on their return….. Speaking of Australia, on her way home is Louise Farrell and she should be a terrific addition to the Ladies team in the coming weeks….. A great collection of Bornacoola people of all ages in the Hyde on Sunday last and Gary Mc Closkey’s crucial goal brought them all to their feet….. Another fine turnout at the Club Draw in the Bridge on Friday night and Kevin and his helpers are doing an excellent job in their organisation of the event. Our thanks to Mary and the Reynolds’ family for their usual exceptional hospitality….. Saturday morning training for all ages up to U-14 is going really well. Full credit to the two John’s (Reynolds and Mc Guinness), Kevin and Philip who are doing a terrific job with our young players….. Finally this week, a few birthdays to mention – Mary in Cloncolory would be most upset if she didn’t get a mention, as would Hubert in Esker who celebrates on the 16th I think, while local musicians Tom (Rooskey) and Ronnie (Cloonturk) are also adding another year around this time

U-10 Blitz
There is an U10 blitz in Aughnasheelin on Saturday next at 10.30am. Parents and players are asked to meet at the park in Dromod at 9.45am and to bring all football gear. This is a great opportunity for our younger players as they begin their careers in the black and amber.

Monday, March 26, 2007

Division 5
It’s two wins and two defeats for our Division 5 team this year as they went down to Mohill on Sunday morning last in a competitive game. A crucial goal for the visitors proved the difference. St Mary’s are next on the list in Dromod on Sunday morning at 11.30am

Ladies
The Ladies team, once again under the management of Jonathan Duffy, got their season underway when they faced Dromahair on Sunday morning last in Annaduff, with the North Leitrim side running out 4-10 to 2-2 victors.

Scór
We retained the Club of the Year award for the second successive year in Manorhamilton on Saturday night last and there were also county titles for the Question Time team and Louise Staunton in Recitation. Well done to everyone who took part in 2007. The club was one of the few represented in all eight disciplines and this is quite an achievement in itself. We’d also like to thank all those who helped out in any way over the last couple of months in the preparation of teams for the competition, to John Geary and Mary Cassidy for supplying music for our dancers and in particular to our efficient and dedicated Scor officer, Martina Hackett.

It was hard luck on our gallant trio of Niall O Connor. Paul Dockery and Damian Mc Gowan, but they certainly performed exceptionally on the night and were most unlucky not to progress.
