Senior Championship
The Senior team are playing Aughawillan at the weekend in the quarter finals of the Masonite Senior championship in Cloone. Aughawillan were good value for their recent victory over Annaduff in the championship and will pose a very significant test as Bornacoola attempt to make the semi-finals for the second year running. Support for the team last year was one of the key factors in our Championship run and vocal and colourful Bornacoola support at the weekend could again be vital. Best of luck to all concerned.

Junior Championship
The Junior team played Annaduff in the quarter final of the championship on Saturday evening last and despite leading for a lot of the game, three goals at vital times for Annaduff ensured their progression to the county semi-final. However, it has been a good year at this level for the Bornacoola boys and there is still all to play for in the league.
The team on Saturday was: Gerry Gearty, Gerald Moffatt, Conor Mc Cauley, John Reynolds, Brendan Duignan, Brian Mallon, Christy Bohan, Richard Bohan, Bobby Shanley, Ollie Vaughan, Niall Mc Gowan, Feargal Howard, Aiden Reilly, John Shanley and Jonathan Duffy. Subs used: Peter Mallon and Brian Reilly
Congratulations
We’d like to extend our congratulations to Junior stalwart Edward Moffat and new wife Geraldine (Wynne) who were married at the weekend. Best wishes from all at the club for long life and happiness together.
Sympathy
Our sympathies are extended to the Derwin family (Clooncolory) on the death of Molly last week. A great character in the area, she moved to Sligo in recent years, but was never forgotten by her many friends and neighbours in Bornacoola. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
Minor League Winners
The Minor team, winners of the League title, were recently presented with a set of Polo Shirts to mark their achievements earlier in the year. The shirts were sponsored by Ronnie Duignan (Clo0nturk) and Feargal Mc Gill (Dromod). Our thanks to them for their contribution.

Senior Championship
Two late scores denied us our second victory in the Championship on Saturday evening, but a draw was a fair result in Cloone. John Mc Guinness scored a fine goal to leave Bornacoola ahead at the interval but a second half penalty for St Caillin’s brought them back into the game and ensured the scores were tied at 1-11 each at the final whistle.
We have now qualified for the quarter finals and await the outcome of the Aughawillan/Manorhamilton group to see who our opponents will be.
The team on Saturday was: Feargal Mc Gill, Damian Mc Guinness, Morgan Shanley, Jason Conroy, Daniel Canning, John Mc Guinness (1-0), Shane Conroy, Michael Duignan (0-1), Gary Mc Closkey, Mark Mc Closkey (0-4), Colm Farrell (0-1), Trevor Howard (0-1), Brian Conroy (0-3), David O Connor (0-1) and Seamus Mallon. Sub used Bobby Shanley.
Junior A Championship
An excellent performance from the Junior team on Sunday came up just short against Melvin Gaels and we had to settle for a draw in a game we probably should have won. Two goals for the North Leitrim men proved our undoing, but it was nonetheless a most encouraging performance and a final scoreline of 0-13 to 2-7.

Club Draw
Winners in the club draw held in the Copper Still on the June Bank Holiday weekend were EUR100 - Martina Manning c/o Fionnuala Howard EUR20 - Claire Barry, Dympna Moffatt, Mary Shanley (Annaduff), Sean Mc Gowan and Kieran Mc Bride (Donegal).
Junior League
The Junior team continued their good form on Bank Holiday Monday with their third win in succession in the league over Drumreilly on a scoreline of 2-6 to 0-10.
U-14 Féile
The U-14 team were involved in the Connacht Féile on Saturday and following the very successful parade in Carrick-on-Shannon, Páirc Barr na Cúille played host to Aughnasheelin, Cloone and Sligo team Buninadden.
The Bors enjoyed victories over their two Leitrim rivals, but Buninadden proved the team of the day with a four point victory over Bornacoola in a great game.
Our thanks to all who helped out in making this a memorable day for the players involved and we look forward to the All Ireland competition coming to the county in 2007.
U-12 Team
The U-12’s recorded their second victory of the campaign on Friday night last. Well done to all involved.
Sympathy
We’d like to extend the sympathies of all at the club to the Larkin family on the death at the weekend of Margaret, wife of the late Francie. Margaret’s son Tommy is manager of the Intermediate team and their game at the weekend was cancelled as a mark of respect. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
U-14 League
The U-14 team have had a tremendous run in the league this year which was finally brought to a halt when Ballinaglera came from behind to deny us a famous victory in the play off game last week. This young team have worked extremely hard all year and the improvement that has been evident is remarkable.
Well done to the entire panel over the last couple of weeks which included Daniel Farrell, Tony Shanley, Roy Keenan, John Hackett, Harry Cumiskey, Kevin Canning, Kevin Shanley, Anthony Mulligan, Conor Hackett, Mark Muldowney, Ciaran Campbell, Barry Reid and Liam Mulligan.
Retirement
All at the club would like to wish the very best in retirement to Mary Gannon and husband Jim who provided an excellent service to the parish from their premises in Clonmorris for a long number of years. A great house for a chat and a wonderful gathering place at the crossroads, the closure of the Post Office is a sad event for everyone in Bornacoola and sees the end of yet another landmark institution.
It seems nowadays that the worth of any institution is only measured coldly in terms of the profit and loss sheet Any attempt to evaluate Bornacoola Post Office and the immeasurable contributions of the Bohan and Gannon families to the life of the area in such a way would be to completely overlook the huge role of such institutions in a social context within rural Ireland. It was a gathering point, a place where neighbours met and shared their news, a focus for a small rural community, a place where a sympathetic ear would be available and a problem could be shared and thus halved. The Post Office will be sadly missed.
On Friday night, the various Associations within the parish come together to celebrate the contribution of the Gannons. The function will be held in the Community Centre at 9pm and we’d ask you to support it if at all possible.
Intermediate League
The Intermediate team return to action on Sunday against Allen Gaels in Drumshanbo.
Ladies Football

Young Bors make their debuts
Last Saturday saw the latest generation of young Bors make their debuts in the black & amber at an under 10 blitz in Gortletteragh. A fantastic day saw the return of the black and amber hooped jerseys and our young guns did themselves proud in games against Mohill, Drumreilly/Aughwillian, Carrigallen and Gortletteragh.
Our supporters saw some great individual performances and most importantly the first steps of a new Bornacoola team throughout the morning.
Representing Bornacoola on Saturday were; Ronan Mulligan, Clara Reid, Fergal Hackett, Gearoid Mulligan, Liam Mulligan, Seona Cosgrove, Kevin Mulligan, Sean Muldowney, Robert O'Byrne, Kevin Shanley, Shannon Boyle, Aaron Hackett, Michelle Hackett. Dillon Hackett, Karl Mallon, Cian Mallon.
Finally we would like to thank Gortletteragh GFC and the Leitrim County Board for a fantastic mornings football and we would also like to thank our supporters who turned out to cheer the young Bors on.
U-16 League Final
Despite a brave performance in the U-16 league final against a Drumreilly/Aughawillan amalgamation in which we led for most of the game, the concession of two goals at crucial times ultimately cost Bornacoola victory on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-11. The team and scorers was: John Hackett; Sean Ryan, Darren Faughnan, Kevin Canning; Damien McGowan, Anthony Mulligan, Paul Hackett; Niall O'Connor, David Mulligan; Sean McKeon (0-6), Mervyn Howard (0-5); Damien Moran, Alan Croghan.
All Ireland Scor Final
No joy for the Bors in Killarney on Saturday last. Aiden Dockery gave a wonderful performance in Recitation, but the title went to Cornafean. In Tráth na gCeist, a very experienced Monaleen team from Limerick came away with the honours despite the best efforts of Aidan, Liam Rabbitte and Marie Therese Dockery. However, there was some joy for Leitrim in the Ballad Group where Aughnasheelin gained just reward for all of the effort they have put in over the years by finally capturing that elusive All Ireland title. To Cait, Síle, Sinead, Brendan, Declan and all in the Aughnasheelin club we extend our congratulations on this excellent achievement
Senior League
Two defeats recently for the Senior team – the first against St Mary’s in Dromod on Saturday week last and most recently against Mohill on Sunday.
The team on Sunday was: Feargal Mc Gill, Conor Mc Cauley, Morgan Shanley, Damien Mc Guinness, Jason Conroy, Seamus Mallon, Daniel Canning, Gary Mc Closkey (0-1), Colm Farrell, Philip Howard (1-2), Mark Mc Closkey (0-2), Niall Mc Gowan (0-1), Shane Conroy (0-1), Trevor Howard and Brian Conroy. Subs used were David O Connor, Bobby Shanley.
A particular word of congratulations to Conor Mc Cauley who was starting his first game at senior level and performed admirably. We extend our best wishes to Pat Farrell, MJ Winters, Michael Duignan and John Mc Guinness for speedy recoveries from injuries sustained recently.
Ladies Football
The Ladies team enjoyed a victory over Ballinaglera on Good Friday in the league, but the Glera girls gained their revenge on Sunday last when they recorded victory in the 9-a-side competition.
