No doubting the main topic of conversation in the parish and surrounding areas over the past couple of weeks as Sunday’s county final has dominated the minds of everyone in the parish. Well done to all of our supporters on the excellent job they have done with flags, bunting, good luck signs, black and amber electricity poles, painted cars and of course the round bales in Rooskey.
However, the real focus will be on the field in Carrick on Sunday. Our best wishes to manager Paddy Maguire and all of the players who face a mammoth task in trying to overcome a very experienced and highly rated Kiltubrid team. Win, lose or draw it has been a memorable summer and perhaps there will be a twist or two to come before the final act is played out.
Adh mór oraibh go léir is le cúnamh Dé beidh féasta ann mhór ar siúl sa pharóiste oíche de Domhnaigh agus de Luain freisin is dócha!
Large flags, car flags, polo shirts and baseball caps are all available in shops around the local area and in the case of the baseball caps you can also contact Micheál Mc Gowan (Clonturk)
We told you last week of Bornacoola’s last county championship victory in 1957 and two of that team – Tony and Noel Hayden – were visitors to one of our training sessions last weekend. They requested that we source the scorers from that final and I can tell you that according to Joe (Junior) Daly’s fine history of the club Stanley Cox is credited with 1-7 of the 3-7 total with the other two goals scored by Vincie Faughnan and Frank Donnelly.
Well done to the organisers of the Harvest festival on another terrifically well run festival held at the weekend. Visitors from all over the country were united in their praise of the fare on offer and a great day’s entertainment passed off without any hitches.
Delighted to hear the news at the weekend of the upcoming marriage of long serving Bornacoola player Gerry Gearty and his equally long serving girlfriend the ever popular Rosari Mc Crann from Eslin. The happy couple will be tying the knot in Cyprus at the end of October and we send our congratulations and best wishes for a long, happy and prosperous life together from all at the club.
