News 14 - 11 - 06

Senior League:
We played Annaduff in the second series of the Shield on Saturday evening last in difficult weather conditions in Páirc Uí Choilligh. The home team raced into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after 20 muinutes, before we found our feet and fought back strongly to level at 0-6 apiece by half time. A scramble goal, finished to the net by Niall Mc Gowan early in the 2nd half handed control to Bornacoola and while Annaduff came strongly in the final quarter, we held on for a three point victory.
The team and scorers was: Feargal Mc Gill, Seamus Mallon, Morgan Shanley, Jason Conroy, Daniel Canning, John Mc Guinness, Shane Conroy, Gary Mc Closkey , Michael Duignan (0-1), David O Connor (0-1), Colm Farrell (0-1), Niall Mc Gowan (1-2), Trevor Howard, Mark Mc Closkey (0-4) and Aiden Reilly (0-1). Subs used: Conor Mc Cauley; also involved were Feargal Howard, Richard Bohan and Bobby Shanley.
We play Aughavas on Saturday away from home with a 3pm throw-in.

Junior League:
The Junior team were also in action against Annaduff at the weekend. A few missed goal chances in the 1st half and a well taken goal for Annaduff left the home team two points clear after a keenly contested 1st half. However, the second half belonged to Annaduff and they ran out deserving winners on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-9.
The team was: Kevin Mallon, John Reynolds, Seamus Mallon, Brian Mallon, Daniel Canning, Richard Bohan, Conor Mc Cauley, Colm Farrell, Morgan Shanley, Feargal Howard, Bobby Shanley, Niall Mc Gowan (0-7), Jackie Conboy, Robert Moran and Aiden Reilly (0-2). Subs used: Gerald Moffatt, John Shanley, Seoirse Reynolds and Ollie Vaughan

Race Night:
Our thanks to all those who supported the Race Night in the Brandywell last Saturday. A special word of thanks to all those who sponsored races, bought horses and jockeys, to our Bookies on the night and to the Micheál O Muircheartaigh of the Horse Racing world, Micheál Mc Gowan, for the commentary provided. Finally, well done to Seamus Mallon who organised and coordinated a very successful and enjoyable night.

GOAL Mile
The GOAL mile will take place again on New Year’s Day in the club grounds and once again former player and selector Noel Mahon is the driving force behind the event which will get underway at 2pm. If you are interested in taking part or wish to contribute something to the Auction afterwards, you can contact Noel at 087 2646931. All of the funds raised will go towards this most worthwhile of third world charities. Music in the Copper Still by Sean Mahon, along with the charity auction should make for a great evening’s entertainment.

Our congratulations to Kathleen Moffatt (Dromod) on her winning of the Leitrim Guardian Person of the Year Award. Kathleen has been involved with Scór in Bornacoola over many years and will be presented with her award on Friday night week next in Manorhamilton.
